Because they are cold- blooded insects, cockroaches can live without food for one month, but only survive one week without water.

COCKROACH CONTROL

There are many different species of cockroaches, with three being the most prevalent in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland - German Cockroach, American Cockroach and Oriental Cockroach, with German and American being more prevalent than Oriental.

Cockroaches pose a far more complex nuisance than most people know. Cockroaches have been connected with illness such as salmonella poisoning and can set off asthma attacks in allergic individuals. Cockroaches that thrive in human waste and garbage often carry various bacterial and viral pathogens on their bodies and deposit them in their feces. These species will readily contaminate nearby food and food-preparation areas which can result in food poisoning, diarrhea, or dysentery.  The type of cockroach detected will determine the type of control method utilized.

The German cockroach removal is performed using either baiting or residual insecticide application. Baiting is less intrusive and requires little preparation or removal of people and pets. Bait is placed around the roaches' living space. Pheromone monitoring devices may also be used to trap the roaches during the baiting process. This can be effective for minor or new infestations, but it is not recommended for heavy ones.

Oriental and American cockroaches require treatment from the exterior of the house. Eliminating harborage such as leaf litter, wood piles stacked against the structure, and other debris will help aid in control. Residual treatments are made to the exterior of the structure. This contributes to the most effectual roach control in your home. This type of roach does not typically infest the interior of a structure; however, they are often seen running across a floor after they have entered underneath a door. It is very common to find these types of roaches dead on the inside of a home on the day following treatment.
