Fall & Winter Pest

Seal It Before the Freeze — Our Fall Rodent-Proofing Package
When the nights drop below 50°F, mice and rats start looking for a warm place to spend the winter. Too
often, that place is your home. The best time to stop them is before they get in, and that window is now.

Why fall is the time to act
A house mouse can squeeze through a gap about ¼ inch wide, roughly the width of a pencil. Once inside,
mice breed fast. A female can reach maturity in 5 to 8 weeks and have up to 8 litters a year. A couple of
mice in October can become a real infestation by January.

Rodents also do more than make noise in the walls. They contaminate food, chew wiring and insulation,
and can carry diseases that pose risks to your family and pets.

Why fall brings mice indoors
Mice spend the warm months outside, nesting in fields, gardens and woodpiles. When the weather turns cold, food gets scarce and shelter gets harder to find. Your home offers everything they need: warmth, water and an easy meal.

They do not need much room to get in. A mouse can fit through a gap about ¼ inch wide.

Common entry points include:

  • Gaps around pipes, cables and dryer vents

  • Cracks in the foundation or siding

  • Worn door sweeps and garage door seals

  • Openings around the roofline, soffits and attic vents

Signs you may have mice

  • Small, dark droppings in cabinets, drawers or along baseboards

  • Gnaw marks on food packaging, wood or wiring

  • Scratching or scurrying sounds in walls or ceilings, especially at night

  • Shredded paper, fabric or insulation used for nests

  • A musty smell in closed-off areas like the attic or basement

Why you should not wait

Mice multiply quickly. A female can start breeding at 5 to 8 weeks old and have up to 8 litters a year. Beyond the mess, mice contaminate food, chew electrical wiring and can carry diseases that are a risk to your family and pets.

5 things you can do

  • Store firewood at least 20 feet from the house and off the ground.

  • Keep pet food, birdseed and pantry items in sealed containers.

  • Replace worn weatherstripping and door sweeps.

  • Trim shrubs and tree branches back from the house.

  • Clear clutter in the garage, basement and attic, where mice like to nest.

When to call a professional

If you are already seeing signs of activity, store-bought traps usually catch a few mice without solving the problem. Our technicians find where rodents are getting in, seal those entry points and place secured bait stations to stop new ones. We also show you what we found so you understand the fix.

What our Before-the-Freeze package includes

  • Full inspection, inside and out. Our technician checks your foundation, siding, garage, utility lines, vents, attic and crawl space for entry points and signs of activity.

  • Tamper-resistant bait stations. We place secured stations around the outside of your home to stop rodents before they reach the walls. They are designed to keep children and pets out.

  • Interior treatment where needed. If there is activity inside, we treat it and show you what we found.

  • Prevention tips. We walk you through simple steps, like storing firewood away from the house and keeping pet food sealed, that make your home less inviting.

Fall & Winter FAQs

Do you provide pest control in the fall and winter?
Yes. We service homes and businesses year-round. Fall and winter are actually our busiest times for rodents and overwintering pests like stink bugs and spiders.

Why am I seeing more mice now that it is colder?
As temperatures drop, mice look for warmth, food and shelter. They can get through a gap about ¼ inch wide, so homes are an easy target in the fall.

How do I know if I have mice?
Look for small dark droppings, gnaw marks, shredded nesting material, or scratching sounds in walls and ceilings, especially at night.

What is rodent exclusion?
Exclusion means finding and sealing the openings rodents use to get inside. Combined with exterior bait stations, it stops new rodents from coming in, instead of just catching the ones already there.

Are bait stations safe around my kids and pets?
We use tamper-resistant bait stations designed to keep children and pets out. Our technician will place them in safe locations and explain where they are.

Why are stink bugs showing up inside my house?
Stink bugs look for warm places to spend the winter and often squeeze in around windows, door trim, baseboards and exhaust fans. We treat inside and outside the home to keep them out.

Can termites be treated in the winter?
Yes. Winter is a great time to install Trelona® termite bait stations so your home is protected before termites become active in the spring. We offer free wood-destroying insect inspections.

Do I need to be home for a winter service?
For interior work, yes. Exterior services like bait station checks can often be done without you there. Call us and we will set up what works for your schedule.

Do you offer year-round plans?
Yes. We offer 1-year plans that can be paid in 3 quarterly payments, along with one-time, monthly, bi-monthly and quarterly service. Call for pricing.
